Immortality of the Soul

Notes from Stephen Bohr’s “The Genesis Code” #12 Two Devastating End Time Deceptions

The Christian world has almost universally rejected the law of God and fallen into the false idea of the immortality of the soul. This is complete adoption of the Devil’s way of thinking:

1. If there is no law, there can be no sin for sin is the transgression of the law

The devil wants there to be no knowledge of sin. The law does not redeem anyone but it makes us aware of our need for forgiveness and redemption. If the law has been done away with in the Bible teaches that sin cannot exist:

Romans 3:20 Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

Romans 4:15 because the law brings about wrath; for where there is no law there is no transgression.

The law is similar to a mirror that pierces deception
Another good analogy is that of a doctor diagnosing cancer
Is the doctor doing you a favor?
If the doctor doesn’t tell you are you still sick?
If you lie, commit adultery, steal and don’t think it is wrong, are there still consequences?

2. If there is no sin, there is no death

Death came in to the world though sin:

Romans 5:12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

James 1:15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.

3. If there is no real death, then we are all immortal, but only God is immortal:

There is only one who is immortal, only Jesus Christ/God, who alone has immortality:

1 Timothy 6:14-16 that you keep this commandment without spot, blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ’s appearing, 15 which He will manifest in His own time, He who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords, 16 who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see, to whom be honor and everlasting power. Amen.

God who alone is eternal, immortal:

1 Timothy 1:17 Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to God who alone is wise, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.

4. Man must be God
… Conclusion that must be drawn from points 1-3

Therefore any effort to show that the law was nailed to the cross, is no longer needed, naturally creates in adherents the delusion that they are God, have the attributes of God, always have a chance later to repent, can always tell right and wrong without prayer and study, etc.

The original idea the immortality of the soul and the concept that man is able to decide what is right and wrong without any external law originated in the Garden of Eden:

Genesis 3:4-5 Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

Paraphrase: Then the serpent said you shall not die (you are immortal) and when you eat of it your eyes will opened and you will be like God knowing good and evil (you will not need anything to tell you what is right wrong such is the word of God, you will know what is right or wrong without God, without the Bible)

Who defines good and evil? God does in the 10 Commandments.

Two ideas are intrinsically linked. If your “spirit” cannot die, nothing matters, and you will eventually know everything. Secondly, if you can determine what is right or wrong on your own without God, you control your own reality and you are God.

God states that there is a commandment that encompasses the 10 Commandments external to what Adam and Eve know. Secondly God states that there is death:

Genesis 2:16-17 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

.. Eve chose another god (herself) over God, dishonored God, stole something she was not allowed to take, brought death into the world, coveted something that was not hers, called God a liar, broke communion with God, broke off her spiritual relationship with God, etc.

The concept of lawlessness and of the immortality of the soul is refuted by Scripture:

God declares his law, and we chose to break the law, Sin came in through one man, death came in though sin, sin and death spread to all:

Romans 5:12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned

Note that in biblical genealogies and all throughout history all people have eventually died. Enoch and Elijah have been the only exceptions.

The purpose of the law is because we do not know what is right and wrong

Greek and Roman philosophy and Roman Catholic Natural law elevates the concept of human reason as perfect

The Bible is diametrically opposed to worldly concepts:

Isaiah 1:5 Why should you be stricken again?
You will revolt more and more.
The whole head is sick,
. And the whole heart faints.

The heart is deceitful and desperately wicked:

Jeremiah 17:9 “The heart is deceitful above all things,
And desperately wicked;
. Who can know it?

Romans 7:18 For I know that in me that is my flesh dwells no good thing: for two wheel is present with me, but how to perform that which is good I find not.

John 15:5 I am the vine, you are the branches. He that abides in Me and I in him the same brings forth much fruit; for without me you can do nothing.

Genesis 3 events:
1. Disobey God’s law / commit sin
2. Cast out of the garden, guarded by Angels/Cherubim
3. Denied access of the tree of life
4. Ground is cursed, death results (dust you shall return)

Revelation 22 (At the end of time the events of Genesis 3 are undone)
1. Blessed are those who do His commandments (22:14)
2. …They may have access to the tree of life…
3. …and enter into the gates of the city… Rev 21:12 (12 angels at the 12 gates)
4. Rev 22:3 There shall be no more curse Rev 21:4 There shall be no more death

Rev 22:14 “Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have access to the tree of life and enter into the gates of the city” – If we are not expected to follow God’s commandments, why say that here? Implication is that those who decide not to keep his commandments are cursed or are condemned to die and do not enter the city of God.

Context of “those who do His commandments”

Revelation 22:15 “But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie.” – all violations of the 10 Commandments

We are not saved by works:

Those who are covered with Christ’s character and His blood naturally follow His law, those who do not know Him naturally violate and do not keep His commandments. The only way to survive is to be covered with the skins of the lamb slain because of the sin, the lamb slain being representative of Christ’s death.

If we will be made immortal, why will we need to access and eat the fruit of the tree of life from month to month? Source of life is external to us.

If man is by nature immortal why bar access to the tree of life, and return access to the tree of life?

Genesis 3:24 So He drove out the man; and He placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.

Revelation 2:7 “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God.”’

Revelation 22:2 In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.

Revelation 22:14 Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city.

If man is by nature immortal, what did Jesus have to save us from?

2 Timothy 1:10 but has now been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ, who has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel

People want to do away with God’s commandments because they want to do away with the Sabbath. (24 hours in communion with God) Is it right to steal, kill, commit adultery, beat up your parents, covet, worship idols, bear false witness – NO, but keep the Sabbath? The answer is always declared: “That Law has been done away with or nailed to the cross.” That the idea of devoting time to God and abstaining from worldly things for 24 hours each week is repugnant to some people, demonstrates their spiritual condition.

Baptism commemorates the death and resurrection of Christ. Sunday exists only as tradition added later, similar to the traditions of the Pharisees added upon the word of God.

Galatians 3:13 Jesus redeemed us from the curse of the law, by becoming a curse for us. Substitute curse for death, the result (wages) of sin.

The meaning of Christ’s death – love God, hate sin that which has killed even God. If we don’t hate sin and love God’s law, we do not love God:

John 14:15 “If you love Me, keep My commandments.

John 14:21 He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.”

Exodus 20:6 but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.

1 John 2:4 He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

We need the law to break deception and drive us to see our need for something external outside of ourselves. The concepts of Faith / Works is simultaneous. It is absurd to only think that faith in God can be independent of good works and vice versa:

Ephesians 2:8-10 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

God’s grace gives us the power and good works are the result.

This is extremely important because Bible prophecy describing the end times states that world will be in a lawless state:

Matthew 24:12 And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold.

Lack of love of God results in lawlessness and vice versa

Professed Christians will come to God expecting to be saved. Because their lawbreaking and lawless works prove that their faith is a lie, they will have deceived themselves in their ignorance:

Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.
Because you have rejected knowledge,
I also will reject you from being priest for Me;
Because you have forgotten the law of your God,
I also will forget your children.

Matthew 7:21-23 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’
