Sorry, but some of this is completely wrong. I am not catholic, but I read the NIV and have never believed in purgatory, or any of the other things you have stated that the NIV doesn’t explain.
KJV is very good, I like the precision in it. But the NIV is not wrong, either I believe.
Roughly 90% of the changes are making clear statements in the KJV ambiguous in the NIV. Removing statements and mudding up other statements I guess can not be “making wrong statements”
If you want an example of deliberate deceit where the NIV is simply wrong, look at Mark 7:9. As pointed out in the article, the translators fraudulently added a statement that does not exist at all in the Greek. Imagine that you write a Bible translation, put the majority of your comments as footnotes, but snuck in a couple commentary statements you wrote yourself into the Bible text itself.
Clicking on the Bible reference shows you the actual 2 different texts and the interpretation I made. If you trace individual words in the original Hebrew/Aramaic/Greek, many words have multiple meanings quite different from each other. Translators simply chose what alternate meaning best fits the context of the writing, however the point of this article is to show that some of these decisions seem to be strange in my opinion.
I would be very happy to make corrections, which statements are wrong?
For example my commentary on purgatory: Job 26:5
(KJV) Dead things are formed from under the waters, and the inhabitants thereof.
(TNIV) The dead are in deep anguish, those beneath the waters and all that live in them.
The KJV verse implies the vastness and majesty of creation, things that were never alive, such as coral reefs being formed, fish and other sea creatures inhabiting them. This also matches up perfectly with the context of the chapter.
NIV: “the dead are in deep anguish” just sounds like a key text being added either a justification for Mormon baptism of the dead or for the Catholic concept of purgatory.
I must say, while looking at a huge seoelticn of websites each week, the theme of one’s web site stands apart (for the proper causes). Unless you mind me personally requesting, is there a name of this design or could it be the tailor made matter? It really is greater than your designs I take advantage of for some associated with my blogs ; )
